September Morning

News (9/6): DC Standup headquarters hasn't been destroyed in catastrophic flooding, so September is officially off to a good start. Beyond that ... the Montgomery Drafthouse, which opens up later this month, now has its own Web site. Taglines Comedy (shows organized by Mike Shader) resumes operations this month (and the last Tuesday of every month) at Michael's Pub in Columbia, MD. After a slow August, show at the area's theaters seem to be picking up again. We have a few new faces on the comedians page in recent months. If you have any comedy news -- venues, shows, whatever -- pass it along! (chris@dcstandup.com)

Trivia Night (on 10/1): The smash phenomenon that is Happy Hour Trivia night continues on Oct. 1 at the DC Improv Lounge. Jim Florentine is the headliner -- get tickets, then show up early (around 6:45) to have your brain stretched for an hour. The last few shows have been packed, so see what the fuss is about. Lounge Shows (8/25): Lots more stuff posted for the DC Improv Lounge lately -- weekend showcases and local productions are all over the Improv calendar for September and October. We've got a few of them tacked on to the calendar page -- go check it out!

Open Mics(8/25): We have word of another new open mic starting up, in Germantown, Md. It's at Bailey's Pub and Grill and it's on Thursdays, starting September 11. If you know of any other open mics (or if any of our listings are outdated) feel free to zap a message to chris@dcstandup.com. Open Mic listings

Comedians (6/10): If you're active in the DC/Baltimore comedy scene (open mics / pro shows / etc.), why not get a listing on DC Standup? For $15 a year, you get to have your bio and contact info listed on a professional-looking site (and you can update as much as you like). It also puts your name on a roster that local bookers (and people seeking talent for private functions) scan on a regular basis. You get access to a bulletin board to tell people about your latest video, audio, and live comedy projects. PLUS your listing fee goes to cover the operating costs of the Web site, so that it can continue to be an informational resource for the whole area. If you're interested, e-mail chris@dcstandup.com for more information.

Improv Lounge (4/7): The DC Improv Lounge continues to be a popular rental space for local comics -- the Improv has updated the rental policy to answer a few more questions that potential renters might have. You can see the updated terms on the Lounge rental page. Dates are filling up so plan ahead, yo.

READING ROOM: On occasion we get humor pieces from comedians -- you can find them all archived in our Reading Room.
